James A. Cunningham, Captain of Fire Company No 2.
One of the best known colored men in Danville. He was born near Mansfield, Coffey County, TN, Dec. 24, 1864 and lived on this city for the past twelve years. He was appointed to his present position by Mayor John Lewman on June 29, 1905.
In 1899 he was appointed an office on the police force by Mayor Bailey, until 1903. He was a competent office and as captain of No 2 fire company as been characterized by ability and energy.
He was a coal mine operator for six years, before his position as a public officer. He was a honored member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, True Reformers, United Brothers of Friendship, Knights of Pythias, and the Continental Legion.
