Appointed by Mayor John Lewman, May 18, 1905. During his short service with this branch of city administration he has filled with competency and credit.
He was born on farm near Vicksburg, MS, Feb. 17, 1872. He lived in Illinois since 1895 and in Danville since Sept, 29, 1899. He received his education at the common schools of MS and had managed to acquire a fair education.
He was a miner by trade and worked at a number of coal mines in the area. He was a fireman in the stationary engine in Springfield during 1903. He worked the sugar farms of Louisiana and was a railroad brakeman for a year for the Illinois Central road.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Continental Legion. Fraternal Benefit, Knight of Pythias and a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Methodist church.
